It is important to know that we presented above the pronunciation of two vowels in the same syllable (diphthong), which is quite common in Romanian. Nevertheless there are other Romanian words where the same combination of vowels results in the vowels being pronounced each one in their own syllable (hiatus) e.g. aer, real, cereale, fiul, familie, istorie, familia, istoria, etc.
